Ecoscape Nursery Announcement
Advisory Notes on the Care & Cultivation of Aloe polyphylla for those in USDA climate zones 1-9a Although A.p. is a subalpine plant not found below 7500ft. in its' native habitat at about 29 degrees South latitude, this does not imply complete hardiness rating for the juvenile plants which you have purchased. Only the adult plants (150 + leaf) have the hardiness rating of about 15 F. The juvenile plants ( 35-40 leaf) should be protected from all temperatures below light frost. Plants in containers of any material experience the true ambient temperature every winter night and summer day. Plants in the landscape have greater hardiness to winter night lows and summer day highs. If you bring A.p. inside for the winter you will need to provide additional light from a plant Gro-Light on a timer set to provide 8-10 hrs/day of light. I suggest using a 100w bulb floodlight type mounted 18-24" above the plant. Do not depend on light coming through a south facing window to provide the spectrum of light A.p. requires. The spiral rosette will open and leaf length and width will increase if there is no long wave Ultraviolet component in the spectrum of light your plant recieves. I also suggest a small fan to circulate the air around your plant while indoors. Do not permit your plant to dry out at any time. Cooler temperatures are better than warmer; 50-60 F better than 60-80F. For local Bay Area Retailers, click here. There is only one product to ship, Aloe polyphylla at $35 each plus shipping charge, shown below. Up to 4 Aloe polyphylla can be shipped together with a single shipping charge.
